Brief History of Kaiser Permanente
Headquartered in Oakland, California, the Kaiser Permanente Health Care System was established in 1945 under the leadership of Doctor Sidney R. Garfield and business owner Henry J. Kaiser. Health insurance coverage was originally offered just for the employees of the Kaiser Aluminum and Kaiser Steel Corporations. Since its inception, Kaiser Permanente health Insurance has grown to now provide comprehensive medical care and affordable medical coverage in nine states and the District of Colombia. For Henry J. Kaiser, health insurance coverage was important for maintaining the well-being of his work force. Today, Kaiser Permanente's national network has 8.7 million members, over 14,000 health care physicians and employs approximately 170,000 people.
